cd2 Tip You Don't Understand - Guitar Blues & Ragtime from the 1920's & 1930's (Second Mind Records L-1001, 1991) Ari Eisinger is one of the most excellent blues & ragtime artists of our days picking the guitar as vistuoso as legendary artists (such as Blind Blake or Rev. Gary Davis), and a great singer as well. As many of the musicians who first of all pay their tribute to the old masters, Ari Eisinger is hardly known out of the U.S.
I was introduced to him by another great blues & ragtime artist, Nick Katzman, a few years ago in Berlin. Ari was just traveling around Europe then. When I heard him playing a few tunes at Nick's house, I thought I would like to hear more... So I decided to let him perform a little gig which was, in fact, booked for me myself. Then I bought his record, and listened to it again and again. The lyrics that I have contributed to this site are picked up from the songs of his record. If you want to know more about him and his album, visit Ari Eisinger's Home Page.

cd2 Tip Dark Was The Night (SME Records, 1998), Anthology Of American Folk Music - Some years ago I only knew two songs by this great artist. The first one was "Nobody's Fault", and I just learned it by jamming on bodhrán to my guitar-playing friend "New York" Nick Katzman. Then I found this title on the "Nothing But The Blues"sampler and was fascinated not only by his guitar-playing but also by his singing. Then I found another one of his songs on the "Anthology", "John The Revelator", and then I really thought he was great:he couldn't get any better... But there was more! One day in a record shop, the kind where you wouldn't expect to find anything along this lines, I picked up a cd2 made in Japan. I saw his name on the cover, didn't ask to listen to it first, didn't ask about the price, but just bought it, went home, put it into the player, and that's how I learned a number of his songs...

cd2 Tip Blue Goose Blues (Topcat Records, 1995) - I discovered the music of this artist accidentily while being in a library and looking for records of the better known blues artists. There wasn't that big choice that I expected. So I had to take what they displayed. As I got the cd2 of Jesse Thomas in my hand and saw the cover picture I just thought: this man looks like one of the old guys... but in that library, there was no opportunity of listening to it. So I took it at home and put into my player... big surprise! What great music! What a good catch i did! I didn't have so much money at this time (still don't have...) but I went to the next record shop asking for this cd2, ordered it, bought it, and am listening to it again and again since five years or so... Although my repertory is always in a change, some of his songs are on my set list forever...
